Abstract
Transportation over roads and highway has become one of the most important economic factors in the civilized world. Automobiles, trucks, buses, and other forms of vehicular transportation facilitate travel under environmental conditions which include the natural environment (rain, snow, humidity) and man made environments including road salts and chemical emissions. This environment is one of the most severe because the combination of natural and man made environments provides synergistic corrosion effects. This paper describes environmental conditions affecting transportation infrastructure.
