Reinforced concrete in the tidal and splash zone areas suffers from extremely aggressive corrosion conditions due to continual exposure to high levels of chloride and moisture. A cathodic protection system utilizing a catalyzed titanium-based anode has been used successfully to arrest this corrosion. A variety of applications are reviewed showing different strategies. In particular, the incorporation of the anode into standard pile jacket repairs is cost effective. Power supplies for these systems have included AC-DC rectifiers and low voltage batteries.
