Since the first cathodic protection installation for atmospherically exposed steel reinforced concrete, many criteria for system operation have been used. To determine the corrosion control performance of these criteria, physical and corrosion data analysis was performed. Structure environment and cathodic protection materials are also considered. This paper is a critical review of these criteria on many types of cathodic protection systems in use on steel reinforced bridge components both in the United States and Canada.
