DC and AC passivation techniques have been used for achieving improved corrosion resistance of Al alloys. Chemical passivation in cerium salt solutions followed by dc passivation in a molybdate solution produces excellent resistance for Al 6061-T6. AC passivation of Al 2024 in cerium chloride greatly improves the pitting resistance.
