Environmental concerns include habitat and species preservation, greenhouse effect and ozone depletion, clean air and clean water, population control and responsible living. The increased interest in a clean environment has resulted in reregistration requirements for pesticides. The impact of these laws on biocide use in cooling systems is summarized. Attributes of an "ideal biocide" are discussed.
