Abstract
Some of the factors which control the pressure due to the formation of corrosion products to cause failure of reinforced concrete were determined experimentally. The failure pressure is controlled predominantly by the toughness of the cover concrete and the bar/concrete interface, and the size of air voids and microcracks. Failure pressure is not directly controlled by mix proportions.
