Abstract
An effective water treatment programmeor continuous hydrostatic sterilisers can ensure efficient operation of the sterilisation plant and produce attractive finished packaging.
This paper outlines the development and performance of a novel molybdate based product for use within continuous hydrostatic sterilisers. In particular the corrosion inhibiting properties of the treatment were evaluated and its ability to passivate mild steel surfaces under the conditions which prevail within continuous hydrostatic sterilisers.
A field trial was carried out with the molybdate/phosphate treatment and the results indicated that in all the following aspects; corrosion control, packaged product appearance, effect on chain lubricant, chlorine stability, thermal stability and toxicity, the treatment was suitable for use in continuous hydrostatic sterilisers.
