Abstract
The American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) standards used in the automobile industry are reviewed. Standardization activities by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and other groups are discussed. These standards are compared to some of the test methods employed by some of the automotive companies. The need for unified standards for the automotive industry is considered from the suppliers perspective.
