Presently, organic coatings are applied to small parts (fasteners, springs, clips, clamps, hinges, engine mounts) in the automotive, appliance, and architectural fastener markets. Organic coatings, which include paint films, pigmented oils, zinc rich primers, and specialty oils, are now being applied over zinc phosphates, plated parts, and bare steel. But customers are demanding changes.

Because of higher corrosion resistance requirements, the industry must develop new products and make improvements in application technology. These new high corrosion resistant products must have black cosmetic finishes, consistent torque, they must be robust and gaugeable, and be operator friendly and non-toxic. This is the direction the industry is moving to satisfy customer demand.
