Abstract
The interaction of our natural environment (rain, snow, humidity) with chemicals introduced to the environment (road salts, emissions) provides a complex chemistry which is extremely corrosive. The chemistry of this environment and its effect on automobiles is the subject of this paper. It is important to understand this chemistry in order to design and test automobiles for corrosion resistance.
