The first portion of this paper will be a brief history of ozone and its development. After that will be a discussion of the features and abilities of ozone with figures and tables to outline these characteristics. The various types of ozone systems will be covered with a description of the function of the various components. A full discussion with details will be presented for each component. Tables will be presented regarding the sizing of ozone systems for cooling tower application as well as a table on budget costs of ozone systems.

The numerous advantages of using ozone as an oxidant; biocide; microflocculant; color, odor and taste remover and corrosion preventer are covered. Various engineering tables, graphs and sketches, etc. are presented to enlighten the reader relative of the many aspects of ozone, i.e., costs, health concerns, environmental considerations, etc.

Finally a discussion will be made covering the desirability of using ozone rather than multi-chemicals to treat cooling tower water.
