Abstract
This paper presents the failure analysis of a high pressure hydrogen vessel operating in cryogenic service that failed instantaneously along the fusion line of a dissimilar metal weld. Failure was attributed to sulfide stress cracking (SSC) of the hard fusion line that developed after welding the 3-1/2 Ni steel plate with an austenitic stainless steel filler metal.
