Abstract
Materials requirements to resist corrosion by seawater have increased in recent years especially for use in the exploration and extraction of oil and gas from beneath the ocean floor. High performance nickel-base and cobalt-base alloys provide the necessary corrosion resistance to reduce maintenance and operating costs and to increase safety. These alloys offer combinations of strength, ductility, corrosion and wear resistance to various marine environments. Relevant corrosion test data and the effect of welding and weld overlay are reviewed. Seawater service applications are listed.
