Abstract
Changing regulations continue to impact the paint and coatings industry. The industry is faced with the challenge to develop a group of products that will meet lowered VOC requirements on national, state and local levels while still continuing to provide the high performance properties presently being achieved with VOC levels of 3.5 pounds/gallon. The versatility of polyurethane coatings, which have already proven to have among the lowest life cycle costs, as well as the development of a new waterborne and low-solvent technologies, mean that they will continue to lead the way in meeting lower VOC requirements for the 1990s.
