Abstract
Deposition in industrial cooling water systems can result in deposit-induced corrosion, reduced heat transfer and loss of product throughput. Both mechanical and chemical cleaning techniques are available for foulant removal. However, this paper focuses on chemical cleaning and more specifically on the key considerations in planning an acid cleaning. Areas of discussion include equipment inspection, deposit analysis, acid selection, spent acid disposal and safety. A checklist is provided to simplify the cleaning task.
