The development of external fusion bonded epoxy pipe coatings are reviewed. Because of the deterioration of the a large water injection system in Saudi Arabia from internal corrosion, a third generation internal fusion bonded epoxy pipe coating was developed as well as the technology to apply the internal coatings. A high and low pressure section was coated in 1983 and installed in 1984. Observations over the past three years and continued deterioration has prompted the internal coating of the replacement system.
