The solvent dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) has been proven to successfully increase production in some sour gas and/or fluid-producing wells, but appears to adversely affect critical seal components. DMDS fluid, used as a sulfur solvent, will remove deposited elemental sulfur that can reduce production. This investigation will define the effects of DMDS on various oilfield elastomers and thermoplastics that may be in sealing components located downhole or in surface facilities.
