Abstract
Fire damage investigation and assessment involves three tasks:
- Task 1
Document the extent of fire damage using visual observations, physical, mechanical and metal 1urgical examination.
- Task 2
Map the heat exposure zones for the area, using temperature indicating observations collected in Task 1 and the following criteria:
- Zone 1
Ambient; no fire exposure
- Zone 2
Ambient to 150 F; smoke and water exposure
- Zone 3
150 to 400 F; light heat exposure
- Zone 4
400 to 800 F; moderate heat exposure
- Zone 5
800 to 1350F; heavy heat exposure
- Zone 6
> 1350 F; severe heat exposure
- Zone 1
- Task 3
Based on the locations of equipment in the various heat exposure zones, assign individual items of equipment to the following categories for further action:
- Category A
Return to service with no further action.
- Category B
Test for function or properties, re-assign to Category A or C.
- Category C
Repair or refurbish before further use.
- Category D
Replace. Do not re-use.
