Abstract
The erosivity of the bed material particles from the Pt. Tupper AFBC were studied in a laboratory erosion-corrosion tester. As-received particles of 600μm dia were tested at velocities and temperature somewhat higher than those that occur in actual FBC's. It was determined that the larger size bed material particles were generally more erosive than smaller Al2O3 and SiC particles used in earlier tests. Under all test conditions a segmented scale formed on the base metal and was removed by a cracking and chipping mechanism.
