A highly corrosion-resistant, nickel-base alloy, which can be age- hardened to 0.2% yield strengths of 120 ksi (827 MPa) and above, has been developed. Strengthening is not dependent on warm or cold working, permitting the through hardening of large section sizes. A high level of ductility and toughness is retained following heat treatment. The alloy resists pitting and crevice corrosion by chlorides, sulfide stress-cracking in the NACE TM-01-77 environment, and stress-corrosion cracking in environments containing NaCl, H2S and S at high pressures and temperatures up to about 425°F (218°C). The alloy also resists crack growth in high-temperature, high-purity water. The corrosion resistance of the alloy is similar to that of cold-worked alloy 625 and superior to that of age-hardened alloy 718 in many environments. The development of the alloy (UNS N07716), as well as mechanical properties, corrosion resistance and microstructure of production heats are discussed.
