Many cooling water treatment programs currently in use require the addition of high performance polymeric additives for deposit control. Phosphate-based and all organic programs and systems that contain substantial iron are typical of systems that can benefit from advanced polymer technology. To address the need for higher performance cooling water treatment polymers, a new acrylic acid based polymer has been developed. This unique anti-foulant polymer is highly effective for controlling calcium phosphonates and calcium phosphate scales. Further polymer testing has shown retention of efficacy in the presence of soluble iron (III). The new polymer stabilizes heavy metal ions such as zinc and iron (III) , and disperses particulate iron oxide. The performance of the new polymer has been compared to several well-known standards now being used in the field.
