Reviews of materials of construction to adequately control corrosion in coal-fired boiler electric generating station wet lime and limestone FGD systems over the past several years have been fairly numerous.1,2,3  They are not unduly so though because the introduction of new materials and methods of applying them occur frequently. It is the purpose of this paper to briefly and chronologically review wet FGD systems design and the materials of construction that have been and are now used. Materials performance is discussed by reviewing the corrosion problems and the materials used in each major component of a wet system, and by presenting the case histories involving both successes and failures of both metals and non-metals. Finally, two new alloys are discussed, the description of a successful alloy application technique is given and the economics of materials is discussed.
