Abstract
Low molecular weight polymers have been applied to control the various kinds of scales found in open recirculating cooling water systems.
A new copolymer composed of acrylic acid (AA) and 2-hydroxy-3- allyloxy-l-propanesulfonate (HAPS) has been developed.
The new copolymer was an excellent effect on the inhibition of calcium carbonate and calcium phosphate scales.
The most appropriate molecular weight was 3.6x103 and the most suitable molar ratio of AA/HAPS was 92.5/7.5 in AA/HAPS copolymers for the inhibition of the above scales.
