Abstract
This paper reviews scaling and deposition mechanisms as they relate to internal boiler treatment. Discussed are pertinent mechanisms of scale and deposition control processes. These include both precipitation and soluble programs for hardness control. Dispersion mechanisms for controlling precipitated feedwater contaminants such as iron oxides are presented. Two laboratory screening tests are presented and discussed. Coordinated and congruent phosphate programs for pH control and all-volatile treatment (AVT) are not within the scope of this paper.
