Abstract
The differential scanning calorimeter is used for analyzing fusion bonded epoxy pipe coatings both before application and after to determine the virgin powder's and applied coating's "quality". There are many limitations and interfering phenomena which often distort the results to a degree that the data is misinterpreted. The source of some of these misrepresented data are discussed. The DSC operator is warned not to necessarily believe "everything that he sees". Specification writers are advised that large differences in indicated Tg of powders may have no impact on the cured coating.
