Abstract
Highly alkaline decontamination solutions may damage materiel. To evaluate alloys used in its equipment, the Army is undertaking electrochemical studies in carbonate, organic/hydroxide and bleach solutions. General corrosion rates, susceptibility to localized attack and stress corrosion cracking will be measured. Metals coated with a chemical agent resistant coating will also be evaluated. This paper surveys the literature and reviews the research in progress at the U.S. Army Materials Technology Laboratory.
