Abstract
A research method is proposed assessing the environmental conditions for corrosion initiation on the high alloy OCTG and Line Pipe in the sour well environments, and predicting the corrosion morphology of alloys in those environments. It is elucidated that two critical limits are possible to draw as an indication of the transition of the corrosion morphology on the TemperatureH2S Partial Pressure diagram: One is for the passive-active transition, and the other is the no corrosion-localized corrosion transition. These two critical limits are interpretable in terms of depassivation pH and critical pitting potential. Based on the mechanistic analysis and the experimental results, the transition of the corrosion morphology was given on the Temperature-H2S partial pressure diagram.
