This paper discusses a new coating that can be applied to in-service pipelines to provide soil anchoring and long service life for elevated temperature operating conditions. In addition to laboratory evaluation, three widely different retrofitting projects which successfully used this coating are discussed. The new coating consists of a two part 100% solids liquid epoxy primer application, followed by wrapping a heat shrinkable polyethylene sleeve or tape that has been pre-coated with a crystalline hot melt adhesive; the polyethylene sleeve (or tape) is heat shrunk to provide a uniformly high tension on the outer covering which causes the molten hot melt adhesive to flow and fill any pipe irregularities and bond intimately to the pipe surface.
