This paper outlines a methodology for calculating the cost of alternative material choices for FGD system components. Discounted present value procedures are applied to the several costs involved. Factors considered include initial cost of the material, frequency of repairs, costs of unplanned plant outages, taxes, etc. Sample calculations are presented. Two methods to account for the uncertainities in needed input information are also presented.
