Abstract
Corrosion monitoring of carbon steel in several district heating and cooling water plants has been performed by means of weight loss, electrical resistance and polarization resistance measurements respectively. Estimates of corrosion rates obtained by all methods have been compared. An agreement within a factor of 2 is observed provided the extent of localized corrosion of carbon steel is low. With increasing extent of localized corrosion, however, there is observed an increased deviation in estimates of corrosion rates.
