Abstract
The Mitsui-SRC coal liquefaction pilot plant was built and successfully operated for 8,000 hours over a 4 year period. In addition to process data, data on construction materials of main equipment was obtained by routine inspections during operation, and destructive examination after plant operations were terminated.
Based on these data, overall construction materials performance was good, with the exception of letdown valves. It was concluded that corrective measures should be taken to prolong valve life and CVD coating is one of the options.
