A series of polyolefinic thermoplastic rubbers have been found suitable for use in downhole and undersea environments. These rubbers require no compounding and can be processed in the low-cost manner of a conventional thermoplastic, yet their properties are those of a thermoset rubber. These properties are retained very well after prolonged exposure to natural gas under pressure, corrosion inhibitors, brine and sea water, at temperatures of -60 to 140°C. These thermoplastic rubbers are finding a growing number of applications in off-shore drilling and production.
