Abstract
Fracture Mechanics considerations are useful in establishing manufacturing, service and inspection criteria for OCTG products. This paper discusses the relationships between steel strength, flaw size, nominal stress and material toughness, which control fracture. Characteristic material toughness is contrasted against fracture mechanics design requirements. Fruitful design, manufacturing and use avenues for OCTG service improvement are discussed.
