Stress corrosion cracking resistance of duplex stainless steels in the environment containing hydrogen sulfide and chlorides was evaluated for many steels with different chemical compositions and ferrite-austenite ratio. It is indicated that the resistance to cracking is affected by the compositions of ferrite and austenite which constitute the steel structure rather than by the ferrite- austenite ratio. There is an optimum value in Cr content. And alloying with N is beneficial for improving cracking resistance.
