Abstract
A new technique for plant corrosion monitoring, Thin Layer Activation (TLA), is described. Specific trials have been carried out to develop TLA for corrosion monitoring (CM) in the offshore oil industry. Two development trials are described. In the first, standard weight-loss coupons, augmented by TLA, were installed in production wellheads and retrieved for laboratory analysis of corrosion by activity measurements; the second was a trial, on a water treatment plant, of a TLA corrosion monitor instrument system where in situ results are compared with other CM instruments operating on the same plant.
