Abstract
Copper corrosion rates were determined under conditions of:
Hypochlorination
Tolyltriazole dosing
Combined dosing of hypochlorite and tolyltriazole
All work was performed in a 34 l/min (9 gpm) recirculated packed column, simulating in all respects an open recirculating cooling tower system. Hypochlorite will "destroy" tolyltriazole but copper corrosion rates remain low as long as some tolyltriazole is present. Air stripping rates for hypochlorite were also determined. There was no air stripping of tolyltriazole. Degradation products from the tolyltriazole/hypochlorite reaction are apparently air stripped.
