Abstract
Twenty-eight compounds were screened via electrochemical measurements to detect any corrosion inhibition properties on carbon steel, Type 304 stainless steel, and Type 316 stainless steel in simulated SO2-scrubber solutions. N-lauroylsarcosine inhibited localized corrosion significantly. The effect was confirmed in both short-term potential scan and in coupon tests. Increasing sulfite concentration, chloride concentration, and temperature and lower pH increased corrosivity of the scrubbing solution.
