Abstract
The resistance of INCONEL* alloy 600 to intergranular corrosion has been investigated using oxidizing acid solutions and twenty-six thermal-mechanical treatment conditions. The corrosion damage was determined by weight loss measurements, intergranular penetration depth measurements and the degree of surface grain dislodgement. The procedures for testing and evaluating the intergranular corrosion resistance of alloy 600 are discussed. It is pointed out that care must be taken in using corrosion rates to measure the resistance to intergranular corrosion. The corrosion test results are discussed in terms of the microstructure of alloy 600.
