The combination of localized turbulence, increased flow rate and crevice effects at partial blockages in condenser tubes is responsible for a significant number of tube failures in service, particularly in seawater. Few data are available on this form of erosion-corrosion. This paper presents the results of controlled tests on tubes of copper alloys C70600, 71500, 71640 and 72200 utilizing artificial blockages and flowing natural seawater. In general, alloy C72200 exhibited performance significantly superior to that of the other alloys. Pitting unrelated to the presence of blockages, was observed in tubes of alloys C72200 and C71640 after twelve months of service.
