The recent resurgence in the interest in d.c. powered transit systems has also resulted in the recognition for the need to control stray earth currents to ensure that conditions similar to that which exists in many of the old operating systems are not designed and built into the new systems. The matter of stray current control has been given consideration in the design of new and replacement d.c. powered transit systems. This paper covers the various factors that must be studied during the design phase of these systems to obtain a realistic approach to the control of stray currents.
