The Materials Technology Institute of the Chemical Process Industry (MTI/CPI) is an industry sponsored not-for-profit corporation formed in February 1977. Its charter is to sponsor technical investigations into problems of a nonproprietary nature in the materials area. MTI currently has twenty nine members. When a project is approved, a contractor is selected, the contract is negotiated, and work starts. A task group of MTI representatives retains an overview function until the job is completed. MTI currently has completed one project; eleven other projects are active, and several others are being considered.
