Cathodic protection, as the principal means of corrosion control for the underwater and undermud areas of offshore platforms, is well known and has been widely used for many years. Equally well known is that cathodic protection can be applied by using sacrificial anodes or, alternatively, by the impressed current method, or alternatively again, by using a combination of both methods in a manner generally known as a 'hybrid' system.
