Several recent studies1-14 have addressed the problem of accelerated corrosion of copper alloys exposed to sulfide-polluted waters. Much of this work was stimulated by the report that copper-nickel alloy seawater piping was failing prematurely on naval ships being outfitted in a polluted estuary water.15
