Since the service failure of an ARAMCO sour gas transmission pipeline,1) * hydrogen-induced blister cracking (HIBC), of pipe steels in sulfide containing environments has been studied intensively. It has been reported that elongated Type II manganese sulfide inclusions are particularly harmful in promoting HIBC, whereas ellipsoidal Type 1 manganese sulfides are far less susceptible to HIBC.1-5)
