An increasing number of new wells are being drilled in reservoirs with depths greater than 9540 meters (20,000 feet). To satisfactorily drill, complete, and produce these deep wells requires high strength steels for casing, but high strength steel is susceptible to brittle failure by sulfide stress cracking and stress corrosion cracking.
