Pollution control equipment is of utmost importance in industry today due to the regulations imposed by Federal Agencies. Inoperative equipment could result in temporary closing of a plant; therefore, it is of utmost importance to select a protective system with sufficient resistance to eliminate expensive shutdowns due to corrosion. Materials of protection which have been used with varying degrees of success have been fiberglass reinforced structures, special alloys, carbon steel lined with either rubber, teflon, epoxies, fluorcarbons, polyesters, vinyl esters or acid brick. Selection of materials is dependent on the type of pollution control equipment involved. The environment conditions will substantially differ within a scrubber, bag house, connecting duct, stacks and process vessels. The pollutants which are normally from coal, gas, oil or other refuge can result in an environment containing acids, alkalies, salts and organic solvents.
