In recent years an increased research effort has focused upon corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete and upon techniques whereby such damage can be reduced or halted. Although the problem has been most apparent on reinforced concrete bridges, it also occurs on support structures, industrial plants, marine docking facilities and others.
