A carbon-manganese plate steel which is microalloyed with columbium has been developed for applications up to 152 mm (6 in.) in thickness. This steel, marketed under the registered trademark Frostline, is a heat treated steel designed for use in either the normalized or the quenched and tempered condition. Frostline meets ASTM plate steel specifications A633 Grade C and A737 Grade B and has recently been approved for use in ASME Section VIII pressure vessel applications by Code Case 1832.
