Galvanic corrosion is an electrochemical reaction between an anode, a cathode, and an electrolyte in which metal ions depart from the cathode and gas generation occurs at the anode, driven by electron flow through a conductive path between anode and cathode. This reaction is evidenced by metal erosion or the presence of rust, white powder, or green or black coatings on metal surfaces.
