The high cost and shortage of fuel today has necessitated greater emphasis on energy conservation than ever before. Large quantities of fuel are used in boilers for steam production, which powers generators, heats buildings and supplies the energy for a multitude of industrial operations. Boiler scale wastes energy because the different types of scale formed all possess a low degree of thermal conductivity.
